West Ham have entered the race to sign Doncaster striker Billy Sharp.

Sharp, 25, has been linked with a number of clubs following his impressive spell for the Championship side this season.

The former Sheffield United forward has netted ten goals this season which has seen Wigan, Fulham and Leicester all linked with a move for the prolific forward.

But West Ham have now emerged as the strong favourites to clinch his signature after they had a bid for Hudderfield striker Jordan Rhodes turned down.

Allardyce is desperate to bring in another forward after seeing his side miss a host of chances once again during the 1-0 win over Coventry on Monday.

Allardyce said: “We’re looking at the striker position because we had 22 attempts at goal against Coventry and scored one goal, 19 against Derby and scored one, 19 again against Barnsley – scored one. That conversion rate is not good enough.

“In an ideal world I would say we’d be looking to sign two or three quality players – a defender, a wide player and a striker.”
