Davies puts Hammers on alert after axed striker admits he could leave Bolton

Bolton skipper Kevin Davies has put former boss Sam Allardyce on alert at West Ham after admitting he does not know whether he has a future at the Reebok Stadium.

The 34-year-old forward has lost his first-team place as the Trotters scrap for Premier League survival.

His axe has not gone unnoticed by Allardyce who is on the hunt to sign a new striker for the Championship promotion hopefuls and is believed to be interested in the one-time England international.

Although Davies did make a goalscoring appearance in Tuesday’s FA Cup win over Macclesfield, he will be back on the bench for Saturday’s home encounter with Liverpool, when £4million man David Ngog is set to lead the Bolton attack.

Manager Owen Coyle has spoken in glowing terms about Davies over the past few days.

The Scot insists that, on top form, the former England international would be a major benefit to Bolton’s chances of avoiding relegation.

However, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, talks over an extension are yet to begin.

And Davies confirmed he faces an uncertain future.

‘I have no idea what my future will be,’ he told the Bolton Evening News.

‘Obviously I am disappointed not to be playing. But my performances haven’t been good enough to stay in the team.

‘I keep training as hard as I can and when these opportunities come along, try and do my best.

‘It’s January and there is speculation about all players out of contract. I am no different.

‘There has been nothing offered here as yet. I understand the position we are in and there are a few players out of contract.

‘In the next few weeks and months I am sure the club will make a decision on those players.’

Davies would complete a decade of service in 2013.

McCoist hammers out warning

Croatia international is being monitored by English clubs

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has warned West Ham they will not get Nikica Jelavic on the cheap.

The 26-year-old has been linked with Liverpool and more recently the Hammers after netting 17 goals in 31 games this season.

It is a record that has seen Rangers place a high premium on the Croatia international’s value, while the speculation around him continues to grow.

English Championship side West Ham have so far been frustrated in their search to land a striker after Huddersfield rebuffed their bids for Jordan Rhodes.

And McCoist maintains that if they want to lure the in-form marksman to Upton Park, they will have to stump up the cash and dismissed rumours they had already made a bid.

“They have not made an official bid,” he said.

“The reported amount would not be enough to meet the demands of the owner; £6million is not nearly enough.”

West Ham United v Nottingham Forest prediction

West Ham United will be heavy favourites to beat struggling Nottingham Forest in the Championship this weekend.

The Hammers have started the new year with two league wins which has taken them joint top of the table.

By contrast, the visitors have remained in trouble near the foot of the table and were thrashed 4-0 by Leicester this week in the FA Cup.

Steve Cotterill’s side have been woeful in front of goal and have failed to score in ten of their last 11 games.

Sam Allardyce’s team thrashed Forest 4-1 back in August and it’s hard to bet against them here. With their relative goalscoring records, I’m tipping West Ham to beat Forest 2-0.
