The realization has hit home that, courtesy of the result yesterday, it is highly unlikely that West Ham will reach the Premier League via one of the two automatic places available.
Indeed, Big Sam has been man enough to admit that it`ll need Reading to slip up if the situation is to change.
Following the fixture, Big Sam spoke about this whilst also lamenting some poor defending that cost us dearly in what was an atrocious first forty-five minutes, commenting,
“I told the players before the game that if you come off the pitch with a clean sheet, you`ll win the game. But I must have been talking Swahili.”
“Our first half suicide was unbelievable. When setting out to win a game you must be aware of what the opposition do and we played straight into their hands.”
“We punished ourselves by giving the ball away cheaply in the first half and then they got two great finishes.”
“The only way back for us is if Reading slip up at Brighton, Southampton beat them on Friday and we win all four games left.”
Now if those four games were all away from home we might just do that, but…………
